Thursday, 8/21 | Lobster rolls and champagne in our berth. |
Friday, 8/22 Dharma Sushi |
Good food, Indifferent staff - perhaps if we had gotten there earlier or spoke Japanese the welcome would have been warmer. We arrived at 8:50 and the place was packed, there were people waiting and the hostess advised that we might not be seated. Deeply dismayed, we decided to stick it out, and several large parties left. We were seated by 9:15. |
Saturday, 8/23 La Perla Northern Italian (902) 469-3241 |
Last year's meal was so enjoyable we have talked about returning ever since then, we were not disappointed. Rosanne had the grilled chicken with in light tomato coulis with artichokes and polenta, I had a veal chop, also with artichokes and polenta. Our sweet finish to the meal: a hazelnut gellato with chocolate sauce matched with bitter espresso. Last but not least, a snifter of grappa. Bravo! If you eat at La Perla and are staying in downtown Halifax, be sure to take the ferry to Dartmouth. The ferry runs every half hour until ~11pm and drops you off practically at the front door of La Perla. |
Sunday, 8/24 Liscombe Lodge |
We found the food disappointing, this is production line gourmet. I suspect that the chef was as unchallenged by the food as we were. |
Tuesday, 8/26 Seawind Landing |
Rosanne and I both had the pork tenderloin in apple brandy sauce. It made us look forward to those fall weekends at home when we start up the woodstove, and cook a autumn feast. For dessert it was carrot cake for Rosanne and pecan pie for me! |
Wednesday, 8/27 Glenora Inn |
After an order of scallops wrapped in bacon, I enjoyed a pepper steak. Rosanne does not eat beef, so I occasionally have steak when we eat out. Rosanne had the panfried halibut. After an evening stroll under crystal clear dark skies, we enjoyed a nightcap of fine scotch from the well stocked bar. |
Thursday, 8/28 Friday, 8/29 Normaway Inn |
The menu changes nightly. A pre-fixe price allows you to choose four of five selections. Appetizer, a soup of the day, salad, and four choices of entree plus dessert. Dining is independent of the inn and reservations are recommended. Breakfast follows the same selection process and is quite hearty. Fresh juice and a country landscape outside the dining room windows are the extra-specials that please us. |
Saturday, 8/30 Heart of Harts Inn Box 21 Northeast Margaree B0E 2H0 (902) 248-2765 |
This small country inn serves a limited number of dinner guests. ( We guess a maximum of 10) Everything is prepared that day and reservations must be made by 3pm. There is one seating at 7 pm. Bread, soup, fresh salad (ours had tender greens, pea tendrils, nasturstum leaves, pansy flowers and a light pesto vinegaratte), and a choice of two entrees are served in well timed intervals. Dessert too. BYO $30 per. Back home this would be the ultimate romantic dinner with reservation weeks in advance. |
Sunday, 8/31 Parrsboro |
This corner of Nova Scotia is know for its fossils - the dining options appears to be pre-historic also ! Seriously, even the "Taste of Nova Scotia" recommend dining guide, has nothing listed in this area. There has to be fine dining somewhere along the northern shore of the Minas Basin. After a passable grilled scallops and pathetic fried clam strips we did manage to find a coffee cafe with great desserts and good coffee. John's Cafe, we should have had a light dinner here instead of trying out the local grub houses. |
Monday, 9/1 Actons Grill & Cafe 268 Main Street, Wolfville. (902)542-7525 |
A diverse menu of gourmet food including: fresh made soup (cream of summer squash), their own gravelax and yummy desserts. Probably the best stocked bar in Wolfville - they had Pimms. |
