Photo of the Day for June 29
Looking Off Bill's Front Yard
Inch by inch I crawl to to the edge. Quite a thrill. Always the chance a little erosion will make you a permanent resident...

Fair Margaree
This valley has a timeless magic. Why change what is so good?
Fertile farmland, picturesque valley and good fishing keep
many here and attract a faithful following of visitors.
Good car shot
Fine day for a drive.
The Arch at Margaree Harbour
We will have to come back and explore this rock formation
next year.
Cape Breton Highlands National Park
The now familiar site of Cap Rouge - our landmark for the
start of the highlands. Blue sky & twisty roads, we are
here!
Skyline Trail straight ahead
The ridge before us is one of the park trails we took two years ago. No crowds visible on this Monday morning. Now, if only Dave could remain in the correct lane going around these blind curves! ;)

Heading toward Mackenzie and Pleasant Bay
Just over North Mountain and its bogs and barrens. No moose spotted, just endless fir trees.
Afternoon destination
Going to check out the cabin of our Internet pal, Bill A, and hike along the coastline at Pleasant Bay.
Highland Valley
Now just try to put in a road here or hike from ridge to ridge. The valleys are just as breathtaking if you can tear your eyes away from the Cape Breton-blue sea.
Red River Road drive
Off we go to what is soon to be a challenging dirt drive.
Once again we come upon a road in the process of being
graded- with a ridge of dirt and till full of boulders sometimes
in the center of the road, sometimes nearly eliminating a lane.
We had to cross over a few times, Rosanne got out to move the big
nuggets.
Dappled Sunlit Path
The start of the trail is a slow ascent along a fairly wide trail. Dave was faithfully recording/following our position on the GPS.
Long look back
Red River and Gampo Abbey in the foreground, MacKenzie Mountain in the
background.

A snake warms up
This guy is probably still trying to warm his blood up from
yesterday. When you visit Cape Breton, don't get discouraged
by bad weather because there is always a beautiful day just
around the corner!

Can You Believe This Blue?
I get a little queezie with my love so close to the edge of the cliff so I forgot to level the horizon line.
Proposed Trail
There's talk of a trail network along this currently inaccessible coastline: From Pleasant Bay to Meat Cove.
Good walking and great views. This is just a preview.

Standing Among the Cow Patties
Let your nose tell you where you are, no moose would smell this ripe! Looking up the stream we spotted the mystery moose - yup, a herd of cattle.
Scenic Pasture
Where cow and moose meet on the edge of Cape Breton.
Stand there, I need to get you in perspective
You just have to imagine this towering mountain ridge above us and the surf crashing several hundred feet below where Dave stands.
Valley Stream
Our turn-around point and where we spotted 4 cows lounging about.
Dave mows lawn
Bill, if my car had a trailer hitch I would have taken the
time to mow your lawn.
Bill's Place
Our newest Internet pal, Bill A., gave us some good tips on the area. He plans to retire here, but we hope to make an offer on this fixer-upper if he ever decides to sell.
A Seal!
Ok, so you need binoculars to see it. Look for the little
white dot on the fan shaped rock just left of center. Rosanne
loves to spot seals, so we had to keep this picture.

The view from our room
The beaches at Dingwall provide spectacular view of Cape North
to the west and White Point to the East.
Long Shadows
At the end of a long day, we relax on the lawn of the Markland Coastal Resort
in Dingwall.
